At 1 1/2 Tall by 1 1/4” wide, this is a strong presence design that is sure to invoke the spirit and strength of Thor to the wearer. This version is mainly crafted with Men in mind, but I am always excited when women warriors adopt this type of talisman in honor of tradition, culture and iconic strength and determination. This is an all silver version, and we also make stone settings at times.
This style is in the rustic expression of design, since it is mimicking an ancient style of metalsmithing known as granulation. In a supreme team effort, with modest tooling and Zero technology, these craftsman would take tiny beads of metal, like BB’s, and solder them in place to create patterns through this method. This design is carven in wax, since I have no idea how to effectively create this kind of work, though I am sure that there are some jewelers practicing this lost art. That said, the feeling of this work is captured here for your expression of connection to the Elders of the Nordic tradition in honor of the Sagas and myths surrounding Viking Lore.
It is interesting to note that in the Viking Villages and archeological digs, the most commonly located jewelry design is that of the Thor’s Hammer. The reason we know this is that they used stone molds to pour the liquid metal into in creating these talismans. These stone molds stood the test of time as a window into the use of myth and symbol in Viking and Celtic cultures alike. The stories about Thor’s exploits and adventures are captured in the Sagas, which give us a lucky window into the thinking behind these stories and application to the rugged life of these infamous warriors.
